So often, we give so completely of ourselves to others
that we neglect to take care of our own needs.
Sometimes, we neglect our physical needs - to stay
active, to get enough rest, to take time for ourselves.
Yet, we are equally as likely to neglect our emotional
and spiritual needs. Maybe we fill our heads with
negative self-talk about how we will never be smart
enough, thin enough, happy enough, creative
enough... the list could go on and on. Or maybe we
forget to take time out each day to meditate, or pray,
or practice yoga, or do whatever it is we need to do in
order to center and calm ourselves.
When we don't take care of ourselves, we eventually
reach a breaking point where our ability to take care of
others starts to fall apart. Sometimes, it takes us
getting to that point before we decide to make a
change in our own lives.
Our challenge to you - and to each other - today is to
take some time out to take care of YOU. Maybe it's
giving yourself ten minutes to take a quiet walk
around the block, or choosing to fill your plate with
mostly fresh vegetables tonight, or starting a gratitude
journal to give yourself the time and space to
remember all that is good in your life.
What will YOU do to take care of yourself today and in
the days ahead? We'd love to hear your thoughts in
the comments section below.
