Be The Change

“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

This quote, by Mahatma Gandhi, has been quite overused lately, appearing on everything from coffee mugs to charm bracelets to unicorn-themed posters. But that doesn’t mean these powerful words can’t continue to speak to me.

As a motivational speaker who stands in front of tens of thousands of young people and adults each year, I do a lot of talking – and I truly enjoy every minute of it.

But I am determined to be about more than just talk. I also am committed to doing all that I can to ensure that more young people, regardless of their backgrounds, have access to the resources they need to be successful both in school and in life.

What are some of the resources young people need?

They need caring, capable teachers who believe they can learn and who are willing to do what it takes to help them achieve their academic goals.

They need schools that see them as more than just numbers.

They need communities that are safe and that provide them with ample opportunities to develop and share their talents.

And they need functional, harmonious families where they are encouraged and supported in good times and bad.

And ultimately, they need these groups – these resources – to align and affirm that yes, they and their dreams are not IMPOSSIBLE but POSSIBLE.

In the coming weeks, we will be sharing more about how we plan to make these vital resources available to young people. We look forward to sharing our ideas and plans with you and hearing your feedback.

Together, we can be that change that so many of our young people so desperately need.
