"I'm Starting with the Man in the Mirror."

I'm starting with the man in the mirror.
I'm asking him to change his ways.
No message could have been any clearer -
If you want to make the world a better place
Just look at yourself and make a change...

You've got to get it right while you have the time.

                               - Michael Jackson, "Man in the Mirror"

A new year is right around the corner, which means that millions of people will be eager to make those resolutions, start fresh, make THIS next year THE year of change.

I'm going to challenge us all to look a little deeper this time around.

Instead of vowing to lose those last 10 (or 20, or 50 pounds), why not vow to be healthier and more active so that you'll be able to run and play with your children, or nieces and nephews, or grandchildren, or great-grandchildren? Instead of vowing to work harder to get that next promotion, why not commit yourself - deeply and with purpose - to a cause that is REALLY worth fighting for? And then believe in that cause, talk about that cause, advocate for that cause, and then - at the end of the day - be willing to go the distance to make the kind of positive change that you know is possible.

I'm not saying that losing 10 pounds or aiming for that next promotion are unworthy resolutions. I'm just challenging us all to dig a little deeper and strive, everyday, to see the connections between who we are, the lives we live, and the futures we impact along the way.

Happy New Year. Here's to an "I'm Possible" 2011!
